GLOBE DERBY PARK - 20 FEBRUARY 2010

Proudly Sponsored by Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club

Thank you to Rachel Maguire for taking photos tonight

Earlier in the year the Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club invited the South Australian Harness Racing Pony Association to compete at one of the Club’s meetings, however circumstances conspired against some of the children and their ponies being able to attend, and the Pony Trots had to be cancelled on the morning of the meeting, much to the disappointment of all concerned.

Instead, the Club came to Globe Derby to support the children providing trophies, sashes and ribbons for each race, and it is hoped that we can return the favour next year by having a strong presence at Victor Harbor.

Spirit led from Magpie Mary and Lord Monty, whose driver was steering a passage through between them. Born To Be Wild and Westbury Bogart were next, and then came Aadelaidee Lady.

Magpie Mary and Kaycee Carey turned for home in front of Lord Monty, but Aadelaidee Lady was back to her best and went on to win with something in hand for Madison Smith.

Then came Little Kizz and Mr Mischief who finished the race off well from his backmark, with Brodie Webster experiencing difficulties driving Wynkie Sweet Fairytales well back.

PJ gave them something to chase for a long way with Eddy’s A Fake attempting to take the field up to the tearaway leader.

Crackerjack and Chantelle Rendall swept up with Midnight Star and Sharni Newman as they approached the finish, but then Wandarra Tess driven by Matthew Basto, who had been steadily making ground from a big backmark, flew home to grab Crackerjack just before the line. So fast was Wandarra Tess finishing, that she won by a head.

Another good drive from Emma Johnson saw her gain second place ahead of Chilli Knights and Brodie Webster. They were followed by Petti Cheval, Cheeky Charlie coming from a long way back and Lapanacaton.

Note: Licensed Drivers and Learner Drivers must wear appropriate attire when in the parade ring as well as on the track, and a helmet must be worn by any person driving a horse in the complex.

Also, whist driver safety is of the utmost importance, children are reminded that the image of the sport is on show to the public when out on the track, and a driver must do no more than that which is absolutely necessary to control their pony. It is better to retire your pony from the race and work on its manners during the week, than continue on under difficulties.
