MINTY WINS NARACOORTE CUP
Greenwald Paceway was alive with action on Saturday night with drivers racing for a pony rug sponsored by Greg Scholefield & trophies from the Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club in the Mini-trotters Naracoorte Cup.
With an extra 20m handicap for last weeks win in the Glencoe Cup Willow & Abbey Gull out drove the opposition and charged to the front in the opening stages of the race to lead the way into the straight. Frankie Under Fire (Matthew Shepherd) chased hard on Willow’s tail desperately trying to close the gap. Nearing the finish both ponies were caught by the backmarkers in the final stages of the race. The eventual winner with a sensational run was the grey Minty driven by Hayley Greenfield. Hayley drove her pony around the front markers & managed to cross the finish line ahead of a fast finishing Pumpkin (Emma Greenfield) who in a gallant effort came storming home for 2nd. Willow managed to hold onto 3rd from Frankie under Fire 4th respectively. Marmalade (Jackie Barker) upon entering the straight trotted well ahead of Slim Dusty (Stacey Barker) & Snoopy (Kylie Shepherd) who was slow to begin and lost all chance early.
Next Saturday night the ponies return to the Paceway for more action & for a night of fun with the galloping trainers taking to the sulkies in a race sponsored by the punters friend Darren Gutheridge.
