S.A. Pony Trots

All dressed up for Christmas, 10 ponies entered the track, being our biggest field for many years.

The ponies flew away as the whistle blew, all except for Slim Dusty (Stacey Barker) who decided otherwise as he kicked up his heels in the Joy’s Flowers Handicap.

The front markers all ran steadily making themselves hard to catch for the ponies’ further back. All ponies gave it their all but Willow driven by Abbey Gull won convincingly followed by Pumpkin driven by Emma Greenfield who shot home using the inside rail. Third was Frankie Under Fire (Matthew Shepherd) closely followed by Minty (Emma Rundle) who was well manoeuvred through the traffic. White Lightning (Tom Rundle) taking an outside path shot home to take fourth place, followed by Marmalade (Jackie Barker), Run Jemma Run (Joshua Micallef), Pamela (Grady Hutchesson) and Snoopy (Kylie Shepherd) who was clearly not impressed with the Christmas cheer, decided to have a bit of fun of his own.

The second race, which was sponsored by Ron and Ros Thomas, was closely contested over the finish line. Pumpkin driven cleverly by Emma Greenfield, stole the inside run again and stormed home just to beat Marmalade (Jackie Barker) who had an improved run to take second. Snoopy (Kylie Shepherd) got down to business and with a near faultless run earned third. Fourth came an improved run by Pamela who was not far off placing, followed by Slim Dusty, Willow, Run Jemma Run, Frankie Under Fire, Minty, and after doing a bit of circle work at the start came White Lightning at the rear of the field.
