The scheduled pony races at Greenwald Paceway on Friday the 11th of December brought a new driver and pony to the track.

New driver, Amity Formosa was excited to have her first time in the sulky at Mount Gambier on expert pony trotter, Slim Dusty. Courtney Sealey was taking it easy on new pony Blitzin’ Billy.

Race one was proudly sponsored by Barry and Sandy Carraill, who volunteer each race meeting to handicap the ponies. In this race, ponies took off their marks quickly, with (Jacob Opperman), flying down the home straight, but Slim Dusty (Amity Formosa) were still ahead enough to get to the finish followed by Jerry (Nicola Bowditch) and Jackim (Jacob Opperman). Marmalade and Bryce Bygate were just a length ahead of Buddy Boom Boom (Evie Sealey) next was Blaze (Amber Formosa). Minty (Jessica Shepherd) was just ahead of new pony, Blitzin’ Billy who failed to blitz for his first race at Mount Gambier. Amity Formosa had a grin from ear to ear, taking out her first ever win on her first ever drive at Greenwald Paceway.

The second race was the marathon race, sponsored by Downunder Magazine, which was an entertaining race to watch with the ponies contesting up to 800 metres. The backmarkers fought to catch the rest of the field down the back straight. Some of the ponies got a little bit excited when they hit the home straight, and two were consequently taken back in the placings. Jackim (Jacob Opperman) took out the win, Minty and Jessica Shepherd claimed second placing, with third going to Marmalade and Bryce Bygate ahead of Blaze (Amber Formosa), Jerry (Nicola Bowditch), Buddy Boom Boom (Evie Sealey) and Slim Dusty (Amity Formosa).
