Mt Gambier Harness Racing Club

Not wanting to miss an opportunity to race, all seven drivers took an early minute from school, to compete at the Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club’s meeting on Monday.
Race one, The Sealey Family Pony Trot, saw Poppin Pepe and Molly Hinch lead the field for the majority of the journey. Kloe Phillips on board Little Miss Geri was making up ground though along with Holly Phillips onboard Super Marley, closely followed by Buddy Boom Boom and Marnee Formosa. Sheza Ginger Ninja, Amity Formosa, sat mid field with Super Mario (Keeley Formosa) and Blaze, Evie Sealey, bringing up the rear of the field. Turning into the home straight Super Marley closed the gap, taking a wide run home. Poppin Pepe’s little legs were getting tired, going 100 to 1, and Holly Phillips stormed home to take first place, much to the crowd’s excitement. Sheza Ginger Ninja flashed down the outside to take second place, with fast finishing Buddy Boom Boom using the inside running to his advantage, running on to come third. Poppin Pepe tired to finish fourth with Super Mario, Little miss Geri and Blaze not too far off the placegetters, finishing at the tail of the field.
In race two, the Simon & Kim Phillips Pony Trot, Sheza Ginger Ninja took her time getting to her mark, and once released by starter Barry Carraill, didn’t trot smoothly in the early stages. Back marker Blaze was given a lift by the handicapper, but Holly Phillips had a double in sight with Super Marley. Poppin Pepe looked a chance early on, and Little Miss Geri was gaining on the two leaders out front. Sheza Ginger Ninja settled, and took to the outside running, hoping to overtake the frontrunners, with Super Mario and Blaze putting in the solid strides to close the gap. But it was all Super Marley and Holly Phillips in the end to take out the double, Poppin Pepe chased after it but skipped under pressure, Little Miss Geri ran on to finish second, Sheza Ginger Ninja third, Super Mario gaining ground crossed the line in fourth. Buddy Boom Boom, Poppin Pepe and Blaze finishing up at the rear.
Next meeting Friday 6th December.
